40X question

If the starting point is a 40Xr, ignoring for the moment the obvious issue of barrel quality, and ammunition selection, what, if anything can be done to the action to improve the ultimate accuracy of the rifle?

Boyd: To the action itself? True it, chase the threads so they are right, make sure nothing is binding inside the bolt, Put in a 90 degree sear catch trigger, re-work the bolt locking lugs for proper contact and if heat treating really warped it go find a different action. All of the above are beyond my capability so someone else will have to tell you how to do that kind of stuff. Or buy a 40x clone action that has been made with more modern machining techniques, one like the Stiller Lonestar. bob

My 40x wears a Karl Kenyon trigger. It is a 90 degree sear. Kenyon 40x triggers are darn near unobtanium. There is a guy in the midwest making a 700 pattern trigger that has the 90 degree sear cut. I cannot remember his name but Clint (flykiller) is involved so he will know. Clint goes by "shooting for perfection" if you want to google it. bob

John Langley I believe makes those triggers.

Guess Bob will consider this heresy. I took the 90 degree trigger sear off my Falcon and converted it to a standard Jewell. Also modifed my Kenyon 90 degree and it is going on my 2500X. On the Falcon I found I had to go to a heavier firing pin spring to get performance with the 90 degree trigger. I like the Kelbly trigger on the 40X, but not sure they are still making them. The Jewell on the 40 X shortens the firing pin fall, possibly lightening the impact otherwise does a good job.

I have a Kelby on my 40x, no issues. now if I could just learn to shoot properly every time things would be great.
