308 Dies

I have a friend who bought a AR10 that's a semi auto 308. I am wondering what Die would be the best choice for reloading a semi Auto 308. I have never loaded for an AR 15 type weapon and I want to make sure I buy Him the correct die, with respect to neck tension. Thanks.

Not sure who all makes small base dies, but being a semi auto, making sure they feed right is probably higher on your list then neck tension.

Redding makes a small base 308 S die. This one full length sizes the body and you can put in the appropriate bushing to get the neck tension you want.
I use one in .223 and it works great for my AR-15 Colt.

The Redding number for the .308 Small Base S die is 77355 It is listed in their 2008 catalog for $84.00

Before I dropped any money on a small base die I'd find out if a standard FL die will do the job. Most factory chambers on autoloaders aren't that tight that they need small base dies, and the custom chambers are made to feel standard sized ammo too. A tight chamber that leads to slamfires isn't good for business....

I load for an M1, which is some different than an AR-10, but harder on brass, and it definitely doesn't need a small base die.

308 dies

I will fire a few rounds with and borrow a full length die and reload them if the reloads cycle. I will just buy standard 2 die set, If not I will buy the redding small base full length die set. Thanks to all took the time to reply to my question.

RCBS makes a Small Base Die set too.

PN 15503.

This is what I use.
