300 wsm / 240 smk

Anyone tried the 240 SMK in the WSM? I have a thousand sorted bullets laying around looking for a purpose in life. I have herd that the WSM doesn't have the HP to push them.

Any thoughts.....? I have enough load development to do.....If it is a waste of time I won't even try it.

Try them ahead of R17...see if you can get 2750+... With the proper throat and a 30" tube, I bet it is possible without excess pressure. I thought about it too and I have a small stash, but stuck with the 210/187BIB length throat instead...

240's in WSM

My first WSM was a 9 twist that I thought had to shoot 240's or 220's. I certainly could get to almost 2800 with the 240's ahead of H4350. I ended up shooting the opposite end of the spectrum with this barrel.
The 240's deserve a long look wit the proper twist barrel. They are a great, proven long range projectile.
 
By the sounds of it the 1-10 twist won't be enough. Thanks for your imput. You saved me some time/money/bbl life, not to mention the lives of many of the SMK's.

You can buy the 240's in a box of 50 so your best bet would be to try them in your gun and see what happens.

It will work! I have got them to work with H1000 and RE25, the velocity is not that great but who cares, it does work. Got a gain twist to put them thru when I get time. Ron Tilley
 
10 twist will work fine with 240 SMK's, been doing it for a few years.
 
The 210 SMK works fine in my 300 win mag so I would think they should work allright. If you never try you will never know.
