What potential problems are there when turning 340 WBY brass into 300 wby?? No 300 brass left. I may have found 340 brass. I will be turning necks. My guess is neck them down and turn the necks...that is it, but.....I have been wrong before....ONCE!!:eek:

When N-L is Norma going to get off of thier ass and make some friggen brass. I know of suppliers who have been out for well over a year.

Just a rant,

Yup, turning the necks should do it. Pretty simple straight forward conversion.:D

Run the 340 brass through a 300 full length die and turn the necks.

If you try and size them down with a bushing neck die you will collapse alot of cases because the bushings don't have any taper built into them. You can buy a bunch of bushings in 0.005 increments to do the same thing but it ends up costing you too much money.

Does it need to be a FL die. My 340-300 project is taken care of, but I have a friend who has a new 6-65.x47l. Can we run the 6.5 x 47 brass into my Redding 6 BR NON BUSHUNG neck die just far enough to squeeze the necks down, or does he need to use a FL die (which we don't have) so as not to mess up the necks? The only issue I can think of when using a 6 br die of any kind is the sholder angle....will we be able to get all of the neck into the die without bumping some part of the sholder.

You won't have any trouble starting the necks in your die.You need a nice tapered ramp and after that you can really put the squeeze on your necks.A standard neck bushing has so little taper that sixzing necks down 0.008 will ruin cases.

Thanks, a bunch, cuz I friggen HATE ruining brass. I was told that I could simply run my 340 wby brass in a standard RCBS bullet seater and that will also do the job. NOPE....ruined a couple of cases!!!!

Thanks,
Tod
