I am looking for load info using 210 berger VLD and fed LR match primers. I am shooting 78 gr of R25 as my fire forming load. Tad

This is a "loaded" question....no pun intended. Although I shoot a standard WBY, not the improved.....my load 2 years ago was 74G rl25/210vld/fed215 and my load last year was north of 80G......same lot of powder, bullets and primers. I think you will need to let your gun decide for you.

Just my opinion, of course.....take it for what it is worth. I know you wanted to hear "xx.x gr RL XX, 210 xyz, seated at 3.xxx at xxxxfps".......you may even get it, but not from me.

I know the Dasher guys are kind of together on thier components....kind of......maybe even the 300WSM guys, but my million and a half years of experiance with the 300 wby tells me that there is no "load".....I have had a bunch of guys give me advice......many worked well......but I usualy need to do extensive load development to be happy. Maybe I am just anal....ok ....I AM anal....but that is what it takes to win IMHO.

Sorry I wasn't more help. I do think you are well on your way with the RL25/Berger 210/Fed 215. You just need to find the right speed/depth/neck tension...ect.....This has been the combo that I have used for a while, just in different portions.;)

Good luck,
Tod

PS....If there is a load that works equaly well in all ackly's....then......NEVER MIND.

Tod thanks for your input. I have also shot a 300 wby for a while and know what you mean. I am really looking for a ballpark place to start as every shot down the tube costs about a $1.00 wear on the barrel plus the ammo costs. I am not telling you anything new, just explaining my motives. Thanks again. Tad

If it's ballpark you want, you are already there!!! I have talked to a few wby guys and Ack imp. guys, and RL 25 seems to be the powder of choice by most.....not all.....but enough to encourage me to try it first on every new bbl I get.

Also, I don't know if you can shoot a match while FF the 300 AI......if not, save your self some cash by shooting cheap bullets during the FF process. Or try the fast powder (with or with out the cream of wheet) and don't shoot any bullets. Some swear by this method, some swear AT this method. I have never tried it on a big case, but it worked out very well with my Dasher.

Again, good luck!

Velocity

Emert,
It all depends on the Lot No. of the REL25 and the internal capacity of your .300 WBY cases! I shot one for couple of years chambered with Leonard Baity’s .300Ackley with a .334 NK. Reamer. I have since got my own reamer, very similar just tighter.
First, I fireform w/ 14 gr. of Unique and Cream of Wheat. Then I neck turn. I have had a Comp. load anywhere from 77.5 gr. to 81.5 gr. depending on the Lot No. of REL25 or the cases. Right now I am shooting 79.5 gr. using Norma .300 WBY cases, FED 210M w/ the 210 gr. Berger Hunting VLD jammed .015” into the lands. The trick is not the charge, it is the velocity! Break out the Chronograph and start at 76.0 gr. of REL25 and move up in .5 gr. increments until you get to 3025 – 3050 fps… Once you get there shut it down.
Any Reloader powder, DO NOT USE POSTED CHARGES! It is Lot No. sensitive. Shoot for the velocities that are winning and stop. As you change Lot No’s, start over.

I have been trying several combinations to fight this West Texas wind. I am trying to get where I can put my first shot in the bull. Shooting across that swag makes calling the first shot tough. I have been shooting so much that my wife said she now knows why I retired. She said a full time job was getting in the way of my toy time. I shot with an 18 mph 9 o'clock wind yesterday and had to correct 5.5 MOA to hit. The day before I was correcting only .5 MOA.
It will be fun. My shoot is set for the first weekend in Oct. We will shoot the 1000 yd on the 1st., Friday, and the West Texas Championship 400 on Sat. the 2nd. I hope your daughter makes the trip this year to keep you guys from East Texas straight if that is possible. It just did not seem right for a East Texas guy to take home the West Texas Championship last year. Tad
