Hi
Looking to order a reamer in 284 Win, what is the best freebore for 175 SMK's and is it possible to get a compromise for both the 180 Berger and the 175 SMK. I have a print from PTG and the freebore is .188 for the 284 and .239 for the Shehane version being based on the same case I found this a little strange.
Thanks

I spoke with Dave at PTG a few days ago on this subject and he says he is selling several reamer for the f class guys with a ,317 neck and ,220 freebore (for the 284). I have the same question that you have, as I desire to order a reamer in the near future, so I will be following this thread to see what the other guys have to say. Do you have any idea where else to search for information on the web for freebore for the 284 and the 175 and 180 bullets?

Why not take the longest bearing surface bullet you intend to use, seat the bullet in a empty case no further down than the top of the boat tail at the neck/shoulder junction, and send it to Pacific. This way, as the throat wears and you chase it, you have more neck to use the further out you seat.

I shoot a 280 with .190 FB...and it seats Berger 180 VLD's in the case neck aprox .200 when jammed.....the new Hornaday 162's are in .080" when jammed....this is the entire spectrum of bullets that most 7mm shooters use.....you will have aprox. .050" before the donut area with the 180's...so you can jumpe them that much before you evr hav to think about problems.....Roger
