260 over 7-08 Why ??

Open for comments ---I have read a few articles showing the 260 to be superior to the 308 (Flatter, Less drift, less recoil etc ) ?? They do not compare it to the the 7-08 and I know it will do everything the 308 will do. IT seems that the 1000 yard shooters are picking up on this caliber and replacing their 300 Win Mags.

Used to be more/better custom competition bullets for 6.5mm than 7mm, but that has probably changed over the last couple of years..........Don

It could be because the .264/6.5mm beats the 7mm in the wind drift game? For some strange reason that does seem rather important to some riflemen.

But on the other hand, what do they know?

BC of the 140 gr. 6.5 mm is better than the BC of a 140 gr. 7 MM other than that, no reason that I can see. The 6.5 mm 140/142 gr. bullets seems to be the 'Hot Dog' for long range shooting at the present time.

To get the same BC as the 140-142 gr 6.5 mm bullets the 7 mm bullets have to be heavier. The heavier bullets from a 7mm-08 can't likely be driven any faster as the 140-142 gr 6.5's, but they'll produce more recoil doing it. Regardless of what anyone says more recoil will eventually - or sooner - lead to worse scores or bigger groups.

Just my theory.
