I was encouraged to come to this department of this forum with my question; so here goes!

I'm shooting a .257WBY; 30inch Hart barrel. My powder charges are in the range of 72-73grains of RR-22.

My underlying question is what would be the best recommendation for an accurate powder measure/scale system, but I guess another question needs to preceed the first one, and it is this:

With powder charges in the 72-73gr range, what amount of variation can I reasonably overlook before I would begin to question the variations potential effects on accuracy? I always try to get my powder charges dead-on and am looking for a scale/measure system to help with the job - however, with a round like this, is it absolutely necessary to have each powder-charge absolutely identical?

So, having said all that, if money and time to reload were not issues, what powder measure / scale system would you recommend for best acquiring consistent powder charges?

Thanks reloaders!
Rod.

I'll recommend the RCBS ChargeMaster.

Barring that, I use a powder thrower to get close and then finish of by trickling onto an electronic scale. In a controlled environment. Good electronic scales are a pain but they are a great way to ensure accurate charges. A GOOD scale allows you to trickle onto it. Many of the cheap ones only allow only one weighing.

Here's a decent electronic scale for under 300 bucks. I use this one.

thanks.....

The link you have given does not seem to work. Do you have a brand name and/or model of the digital scale you are recommending?

Having spent some using one to load for a .338 Lapua with Retumbo, I can say with some confidence that the RCBS Chargemaster is the way for you to go. They are outstanding! On the other hand, being on a more limited budget myself, I have never had a complaint about using any powder measure to throw a charge that is a half grain light, into the scale pan and then trickling (RCBS trickler) up to the desired weight on my RCBS 10-10 scale, (that I have given a tune-up). Either way, the results will be fine.

Boyd, you need to post some pictures of your "tuneup."

Boyd has made a little more than a tuneup ;) he's actually come up with a way to make the balance scale user friendly.
