.223 scope

A long time friend recently passed away. Before he died he sold me one of his 4-5 ARs I want to put a longer range scope-not tactical-on it. Although I have several guns and hi-dollar scopes, I don't want to spend a load on this. I'm looking at a Nikon P-223 3x9-40 or similar price range. I welcome any thoughts, comments, help. The Nikon P-223 is a passable scope, but the M-223 line have much better optics if you can afford the extra $$$. Either the P- or M- offers the 600 BDC reticle which is quite useful for long-range shooting.
