.223 or 6BR?

I presently own and am very happy with a 2009 Savage LRPV (RBLP) single shot in caliber .204 Ruger. Out to 200m/yards it is more accurate than I could have ever hoped (3/8-1/2 MOA) . At 300 yards or so it's inability to buck the wind (and/or my poor skills at reading it) start to take their toll with that little 39gr projectile. I have therefore convinced myself to buy another additional rifle in either caliber.223 Remington (7 twist barrel) or 6BR. My rifle will most probably be another Savage - either another LRPV or an FT/R model. I'm going to handload for either one, and I have neither set of dies, so that point is moot. I own no other rifles in either caliber, FWIW. Help me decide. We are talking club level shoots and Saturday morning fun sessions, here; nothing too serious. Thanks, guys.

Real hard to beat the 6 BR.
Decide on how far you want to shot then get the twist for the bullet.
Example
600 yards and farther get a 1 n 8 twist.
anything less get a 1 n 12
or if only shooting to 300 yards get a 1 n 14.

The 223 is a wonderfully cartridge but the 6BR will shoot rings around it.

i shoot a Savage LRPV in 6mm br ( 1-8 )..could not be more pleased with the way it shoots & 6mm br...it was an easy to tune a load...shoots 80 gr berger fbhp & sierra 107 gr matchkings...so 100m to 600 yds

Go with the 6br for sure, while the 223 is a great round the gains you will get over the 204 are very small if any past 300. The 6br is very relaible to 600 and beyond. Plus the supply of high quality 6mm bullets are endless.

If you already have the .204 and you are happy with it, then I'd have to go along with the 6BR as a next rifle. You might as well make the jump up to this level.

+1

the heavier bullets take over in the 400-450 range

Keep and eye on the used 6 BR rifles. From time to time I see some very good deals. A real match rifle, used, will give you a lot more fun than the new Savage and not cost much if any more.
