Hello i am putting together a varmint rig in 222 and with my hand load of x amount of aa2230 and a 52 gr bullet showed a 6 shot mv over the chronograph at 3247 average seemed a little high to me .This is out of a stainless brng stalker with a 22" barrel. This is not loaded past the book and no pressure signs first loads with the 222 was expecting a little over 3000 fps any thoughts????I have several bolt 223s and this is right up with them with a few grains less powder:confused:

That's about what my 222 is pusing (3225) w/50gr bullets and IMR 4895 through and old 700 ADL. This is an old rifle and I built that load many years ago but it still shoots them just fine with no signs of over pressure.

222 Rem. velocity

Must be some "magic" going on here: I'm also averaging 3250 fps with my Hart 1-14, 24", using the Hodgdon recommended load of 22.2 grs. of H322, and the 50 gr. V-Max, .020" jump, Fed. 205. A Remington 700BDL factory with a well used barrel is at 3190 with the same load.

Well the little 222 oldster is getting my respect will try some bergers i have laying around i am pretty happy with the groups and mv from what i considered a almost forgotten 22 cal in varmint at least in my neck of the woods.:D

222 Rem.

codyntuck: If you're able, pick up some Lapua brass, and this great "little" cartridge will become even better. Very accurate, easy to load for:no tricks, no recoil, very long barrel life, a proven winner since 1950. My before mentioned load of 22.2 grs. of H322 w/ any quality 50 gr. bullet (even the softpoint varmint bullets will shoot), has shot consistantly sub MOA with 5 shot groups at 200 yd, and for me that's what counts: accuracy over a long period of time and hundreds of targets, not a one shot group out of many others that were "not so good".

Thanks I have some Winchester brass I would like to use up than I will try some Lapua finding h322 up here right now is impossible but i have some aa2015 and h335.

Heck my 222's favorite load shoots just a hair over 2800fps with a 50 grain spsx. But it does so accurately I have no complaints.:D
