Still looking and waiting for the results for last year. Has anyone seen the list of winners posted? I have seen the shooter of the year points updated, but that was it.

1000 yard Program

During 2009, nine 1000 yard clubs held 84 matches, which included both light and heavy gun classes. There were 2,151 light and 1,897 heavy gun shooters or a total of 4,042 shooters for 2009. We averaged 48 total shooters per match down from the 51 shooters per match in 2008. The total number of shooters has increased 12.3% but the average number of shooters per match was down 7.6%. This is a trend that has been happening for the last 3 years.

The 1000 yard National championships in 2009 were another success and sponsored by the Iowa 1000 yd Club. There were 79 light and 69 heavy gun shooters for a total of 148
Shooters.

The Long Range Marksman awards were given out at the 1000 yard National Championships this year. We had three Shooters earn there Jackets, Clay Earhart, Charles Ellertson, and Stanley Taylor. Lee Fischer achieved the 130 point Level and Danny Brooks Achieved the 190 point level.

There were three records broken in 2009, Joel Pendergraft set a new single target ten shot Group record.of 3.048 inches, Al Forbes set the 1000yd six match Light Gun Group Aggregate at 4.281 inches, and Lee Fischer broke the 1000yard six match Heavy Gun Score aggregate with a Score aggregate of 98.833. Joel’s and Lee’s records are World Records in addition to IBS records.

600 yard program

In 2009 we had 7 clubs holding 34 matches compared to 33 matches in 2008. There were 771 Light gun shooters, 685 Heavy gun shooters for a total of 1,456 shooters. Total shooters per match were 43 in 2009 vs. 35 in 2008. The total number of 600yd shooters increased about 26% and the average shooters per match also increased about 22%.

Summary Long Range program

Overall the Long range program is in good shape, we had a total of 5,498 Light and Heavy gun shooters in 2009. This was up 15.72% from 2008. In 2009 we had 16 Clubs spread out from Minnesota, Iowa Missouri and Nebraska to the East Coast holding 118 Long range matches.

During 2009 the Virginia 1000yd Club and the Caberra Rifle Club from Australia held a 1000 yard Postal Match which only compared the results of both Clubs from various matches (there were neither soy points nor lrm points given for this comparison). The Comparison of these matches can be found on the Virginia Club’s web site. I believe all involved had a great time and thanks to all the Virginia Club management and Shooters and our good friend Dave Goodridge and the Shooters from Australia.

A general business meeting was held during both National Championships where shooters had a chance to voice opinions on shooting issues. At the 1000 yard National Championships we discussed how to change a rule, what the committee’s role is and shooter representation. The vast majority of the shooters present would like this to continue at future Nationals.

The tentative Long Range schedule for 2010 has 10 clubs scheduling 92 matches. I would expect this to grow before the season begins in 2010.

The 600 yard national Championships will be held at the St Louis 600yd club in 2010. The 1000 yard National Championship will be held at the Gopher Rifle & Revolver Club’s range at Harris Minnesota.

There continues to be many challenges to the future of our Clubs, our Shooting sport and the IBS. So please remember that all the people working for the IBS and at the individual Clubs are Volunteers and are giving of there personal time so we can shoot competitive matches in a structured format, so please help where you can.

I would like to thank the Long Range Committee, the Shooters who run the individual Clubs and all the IBS Shooters for another successful shooting season.

Lee Fischer
Chairman - Long Range Rules Committee

Please note that total shooters as referred to above is the sum of Light and Heavy gun shooters divided by the total number of matches by discipline. It is not meant to represent a actual count of the total number of individuals participating in a match, which would be less than the totals mentioned above because the majority of light gun shooters also shoot heavy gun.
