hi shooters

would like validation on the concept of a 168 grain rebated boattail bullet for the .308 win for 1000 yard performance due to possible improved ballistic coefficient dynamics ----- and the fact that the standard 168 grain boattail is such a popular bullet but not for 1000 yards due to subsonic velocitiies at 1000 yards.

In 1980, Lake City Army Ammunition Plant tested four bullets with the goal of replacing the 173 grain FMJ BT bullet in the M118 7.62MM National Match ammunition. Of the four, the Lapua 170 grain FMJ was found to be slightly more accurate. But because of cost and National Security concerns (Lapua was a foreign manufacturer) the 168 grain Sierra International Match bullet was selected. It was adopted in 1982 as the M852 National Match. While the Sierra proved to be superior out to 600 yards it was found lacking when velocities went trans-sonic (not sub-sonic). It was replaced in 1996 with the new Sierra 175 grain MatchKing.

So, I think it's safe to say that the rebated BT Lapua would probably have been a marginal 1000 yard performer as well. The fact that you are asking for validation leads me to believe that you have already made up your mind. Do you have evidence to support that?
