1:12 vs. 1:14 twist .22 PPC

First off.............not a BR shooter. I have a buddy of mine that has a 1:12 barrel and wants to build a .22 PPC. Will this give acceptable accuracy, or is 1:14 or any other twist more preferable for a 100-200 yard gun? (Again not BR shooters). Any opinions are welcome, just need some info for the best route to take on this build.

Thanks in advance,
MED.

P.S. Been away for a while, hope all is well and Happy New Year to Y'all!!

I own PPC's, BR's and larger 6MM's like 243AI and 6X47L in all twists and am of the opinion that most shooters will never see the difference in accuracy between them. I doubt a non-BR shooter person could find a difference between 12T and 14T using light bullets.

Thanks Al,

Sorry so long...........Star Wars Marathon (Geek). I think I will continue with my build. What bullet range do you recommend with the 12 twist? My buddy has a couple of 2nd hand 6 PPC's that he expects the same accuracy of. (.200 - .300 groups) I'm definitely not a Smith of BR quality work?, however I have built some extremely accurate rifles. I have another friend that has had success with 68 - 70 gr. bullets from a .220 Ackley Swift with a 1:12 twist. Just looking for suggestions, as I am also more familiar with a 6x47 Lapua and longer range cartridges and tend to shoot longer ranges i.e. 1000 yd. I suppose the physics are similar none-the-less, to a degree?

Thanks,
MED.

I always wanted to build a 1 in 12 twist 22 ppc. Eric Sinclair told me that when he was shooting His dad (Fred) and him was shooting 22 PPC's in 1 in 12 twist and they felt that they had an advantage over the 6 PPC guys. He claimed that they was shooting 64gr bullets, and had close to the same BC as the 6mm. If you look at Berger's web site they show G1 BC of the 65-68gr match 6mm bullets at .253-.280 BC, and the 64gr 22 cal have a BC of .294 Might be something there.

Thanks Pat,

Just the type of info I'm looking for. We're not BR competitors out here in Utah where I'm from but, I'd like to be able to at least duplicate the accuracy of the 6 PPC's he already has. It definitely sounds do-able.

Thanks for the reply!!

If you are getting shots thrown, try a little flitz in the chamber area, and then clean it as usual.

I think I'll have to treat myself to a new Sexy Sweet Sheer Body Stockings soon.

I've got a buddy swears by Turtle Wax Buffing Compound....... same idea'r. It's a mild abrasive like Flitz.

He's got a 243AI barrel with about 3000rds down and when it throws shots he buffs 'er out until the skritchiness is gone, smooths it up and goes another 10-30shots. He feels he's just knocking the edges off the roasted metal in the bore. It shoots for a while then gets hard to clean as the firecracking humps up. The barrel is DONE but he's been doing this for 500rds and it does shoot good in between buffings! :)

LOL
