    The Un-Calfee Rifle

It really won't matter. It really wont matter - if you build the ultimate un-Calfee rifle, shot by an un-Calfee shooter, and it's breaks every record ever set, Ole' BC will claim that you stole the idea from him anyway.

    Vibe

It was revealed that the King had no clothes several years ago on this message board. That's about the time that the whole parallel node, stopped muzzle explanation was offered up. At that time, anyone who believed that the King was actually naked was lumped in with a group labeled as "Funny...

Shooting a Rimfire Sporter from a Bipod?

None of the major sanctioning bodies shoot for "group". They shoot for score, which necessitates the ability to move from one bull to another quickly and precisely. That's why the rests used are so sophisticated.

    Rimfire Accuracy Research Program

That research can't be trusted. The rifles don't have cute sounding names like "Midnight Rider", or even their own T-shirts or theme songs. How can you have valid research without those items?

    Benchrest-Silouhette Rifle

You might want to check with Steve B. (Boelter is the correct spelling, I believe). I think you can find him on RFC, typically in the Anschutz forum. He has what is probably the best creature for both disciplines, but would probably require swapping the barreled action between 2 stocks to be...

My problem with the "parallel node"

Do you think it's possible to plot the trajectories of the 2 bullets (fast and slow) to show how they can intersect at 42 yards, for the slow one to be higher at 50 yards, and for the slow one and fast one to intersect again at some greater distance?

My problem with the "parallel node"

Bravo, Vibe. You are a model of patience and understanding. Using the correct terminology is not just a matter of semantics. Specific words carry specific meanings and connotations. Words like "parallel", "node", "stopped", and "downforce" do not have some kind of arbitrary, user-defined...

    Tuners Spinning Out Of Control

After his suspension was served, he pulled the threads. As Greg noted, apparently not 100% of the threads were pulled by "Kathy".

    Tuners Spinning Out Of Control

There used to be another guy on this forum who pulled ALL of his threads before he quit posting here, after having his account suspended for shenanigans. His buddy set up a new website for him to post on.

    Tuners Spinning Out Of Control

Mr. Nobody - I once worked for Armco steel, who made the wire rod that was used to draw tire bead wire. We supplied places like Union Wire Rope, Leggett & Platt, and Bekeart (sp?) who made tire bead wire. That's a very similar process to tube drawing.

    Tuners Spinning Out Of Control

Vibe - I'm right there with you on the Young's Modulus issue (it varies only the smallest, almost immeasurable amount with respect to heat treatment, hardness etc). And of course, the barrel has to respond in an elastic manner. I was thinking in terms of having to overcome any compressive or...

    Tuners Spinning Out Of Control

My 2 cents from a materials standpoint is that the residual compressive stresses from button rifling will cause a barrel to behave differently than a barrel with cut rifling. I suspect that the button rifled barrel will want to stay "straighter" in general than a cut rifled barrel (like a...

    Tuners Spinning Out Of Control

Don't take this too seriously either, coming from a metallurgist. Selective heat treatment may truly have some benefit, Jim. All kinds of parts have specific areas selectively heat treated for different reasons (gears, shafts, tubes, sawblades, etc....). As higher levels of performance are...

    Tuners Spinning Out Of Control

Thanks for directing the discussion towards science, Vibe. This is straightforward "Pinewood Derby" physics. Calculate the rotational moment of inertia for each wheel configuration. Assuming a smooth rolling surface which won't affect the downhill performance of the wheels, the one with the...

AMT Custom 10/22... What's it worth?

Your best return on investment is probably at RFC - and parting it out will yield the most money. SteveM.

    JTR Benchrest Stocks (Robertson Composites)

Here's a link to the discussion about Robertson Composites from Steelchickens. Robertson makes one of the most popular aftermarket silhouette stocks. http://www.steelchickens.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3598 SteveM.

    JTR Benchrest Stocks (Robertson Composites)

Is Robertson still making stocks? There is a lot of talk on one of the silhouette boards that they are not going to be making any more new stocks for sale, but will fill existing orders. SteveM.

    How things have changed

Almost pure lye (NaOH) is still readily available at most hardware stores (Lowe's and Home Depot included). Roebic drain cleaner is ninety-something percent NaOH and is relatively inexpensive for a container. I know because I buy it and use it for making BioDiesel. SteveM.

    Calfee Sporter

If self-promotion and stirring the pot on this forum were Olympic events, Bill Calfee wouldn't be able to lift up his head due to all of the gold medals.
