    3 jaw chuck

The set tru or adjust tru chucks are super useful in the machine world and are excellent choices for rifle barrel work. You can dial in a rifle bore to under .0001 easy with good 4 groove cut rifle barrels and a set tru chuck. I have two 3 jaw and one 6 jaw set tru chucks. I would never go back...

    Does barrel straightness effect accuracy.

Having a straight barrel does not mean it will shoot with benchrest Accuracy! I have seen straighter ones not group well and crooked ones Hammer! Never know what you have til you test it on target. Ive seen barrels that people was sending back to the manufacturer and they turn out to be the best...

    South Bend Heavy 10

The Acer 1340 is what i used in school. Very nice gearhead lathe. I still prefer my 1963 South Bend Heavy 10 for what i do. I have a Enco 12x36 that mainly just gets used for polishing barrels since the South Bend came along.

    South Bend Heavy 10

Same as my beloved South Bend Heavy 10 i do all my chamber and thread work on. These little Heavy 10s are great machines for chambering barrels thru the headstock. My all time favorite lathe for riflesmith work!!

    Another question

I have chambered barrels now using the long headstock method using bushings in the spindle bore on two different lathes. One 15 Leblond regal and the other a 15 inch Clausing Colchester with great results. Ive also used a steady rest and ive also used Gordy method. To each his own but i like...

    Indicating Rifle Barrels

Jerry i have used your reamer bushing trick many times on 5 Groove barrels to help me set them up. It works so well that if i put a indicator back inside the bore its within .0002 most times!

    Indicating Rifle Barrels

Thats my take on this as well. I have used PTG range rods and zero on it and then run indicator inside the barrel to find .001-.002 of runout. I feel like using the indicator inside the bore is the best and most accurate way.

    Indicating Rifle Barrels

I have been having good results indicating rifle barrels in my 1963 South Bend Heavy 10 lathe using Buck Ajust-Tru chucks. I use 312B-15 Interapid .0005 indicator with 2.75 stem. I also use the Mitutoyo 513-504 .0001 round body as per Jackie and Butch. I had a machinist tell me the other day...

    Range Rod or Indicator?

If you use Gordys method you want worry about indicating the muzzle end when threading and chambering.

    20 Vartarg

20 Vartarg is a Awesome little cartridge! You want have any problems setting up your 20 VT. If your Reamer neck is .232 or bigger you want have to turn necks on most brass cases. Loaded rounds are usually .228-.229 for me. Also once you run a 221 fireball case in the 20 Vartarg die it is almost...

    American Pacemaker lathe

Jerry I would have to cut the wall of the shop out and do a major add on to fit this machine in my shop. Don't think I will ever need a barrel that big!

South Bend Heavy 10 at work!

Thanks Mike. It works well for me threading and chambering my barrels. I still have my Enco 12x36 belt driven lathe in my shop I use from time to time, but the South Bend is the Prize machine!
