Truing barrel in CNC chamber Setup

The CNC lathe I use for my barrels has a 2-1/16" spindle bore. I built several delrin bushings that are a few thou smaller than the bore and about 3" long. It has a 1/8" o-ring about 1/2" from either end. I have the center step bored in a way that the bushing will make contact near its center...

    Trap shooting and gun dogs

Well I do take my German Short Hair Pointer with me trap shooting. He gets awful upset that he can't go retrieve the clay birds. His favorite things in life are birds, squirls and a little drone I fly around the house. This drone thing you would have to see to believe. I have to regulate how...

    Need some outa'-the-box thinkers...

Maybe modify a semi shotgun. Use the gas piston system to drive a counterweight and just load manually. A common 3-1/2" 12ga load throws 875 grains of lead at 1300 and a shotgun is rather light I think. Install a gas valve and tune to your load.

    Need some outa'-the-box thinkers...

Cuz the game wardens will hear him. Lol Al, how about a buffer tube type setup under the barrel that drives a counterweight in reverse via a gas port?

    Cnc help

A few months ago I bought a new VF2SSYT with a 15K spindle and the new HRC210 high speed rotary. I really love it. They are VERY good machines. I also have a VF2 and VF3 I've had for 19 years and they are still producing precision parts. The new machines are far improved from the old ones so...

    Bix and Andy Action

Material certs don't mean much today. There has been a lot of fraudulent and incompetent activity amongst material suppliers. Bottom line is a cert is just a piece of paper. The only way to know 100% for certain what you have is by sending material samples to independent test labs for testing...

The religion of peace, love and athletics?

I think you might be confusing religion with science. It appears according to Websters it is both a cult and a religion... Full Definition of CULT 1: formal religious veneration : worship 2: a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents 3: a religion...

When does the case neck expand?

Al - I was unaware of that there safety concern. Fortunate for me I didn't learn the hard way. I've heard of reduced loads causing a secondary pressure spike. Since the thick/strong neck thing probably hasn't been tested to failure, are you sure what the failure would look like? Maybe...

When does the case neck expand?

Back when I was heavily experimenting, I was chasing a theory of the neck helping the alignment of the bullet into the throat and reducing in bore yaw as was mentioned earlier. I felt conventional necks just weren't strong enough to have a significant influence. I hardened the necks to a...

    thread mic??

Not sure how good the attachment will be but here is a picture of some inserts. The two lighter colored inserts come polished to a mirror finish on top with the outer edges ground. The cutting edges are razor sharp. The threading inserts are some of the better ones I've used and all cutting...

    thread mic??

Could someone explain to me the science behind this HSS/carbide observation? I've heard this before and I'm open to input but I have not personally experienced this in my career. For me, setup rigidity and cutter geometry are the most important factors and cutting tool material only determines...

    thread mic??

Been stated many times here and I also support the idea of cheap thread mics. A gage only tells you if part of the thread profile is bigger or smaller than the gage. Proper gaging requires a go and a no-go gage. Then you only know you are somewhere in between. Then you have to calibrate them...

    Rail Gun Action ?

Really slick idea. I was wondering about the rule book though. "No magazine, clip or similar device shall be allowed".

Mountain Mike - I would be very interested in seeing that spec if you could post it or email it please.

Tuner question (not for real......) :) maybe?

Keith, I think I understand you at this point. If there is stable, repeatable vertical impact over a range of MV that is less dispersed than the mathematical value predicted due to drag, there must be a positive compensation happening. I can buy that. In my ladder test I was talking about...

Tuner question (not for real......) :) maybe?

Also of note, I was shooting 215 Bergers with a BC of .696 from 2700 to 2900 at 100 yards with up to 30fps spreads. Comparing this to your above example of .040 at 100 I would say I am not seeing any effects of positive compensation but some sort of wave is moving the groups up and down with...

Tuner question (not for real......) :) maybe?

I have seen what Francis described many times. I recently did some extensive ladder testing with a long barrel 300WSM. There were distinct loads where the vertical was nearly gone but would then produce horizontal strings like Jackie referred to earlier. The loads where the vertical came...

Tuner question (not for real......) :) maybe?

Keith, Have you found a method of testing the amount of positive compensation a rifle setup provides?
