So just why does the PPC shoot so well?

I don't mean to hijack the thread or anything, but real down & dirty; what does carbon blow-by in one form or another mean other than slow sealing? What is the sine wave telling? Thanks

So just why does the PPC shoot so well?

It appears to me that all underbore cartridges shoot relatively well up close. Seems a simple formula. Small capacity for cal, fast powder, very high pressure(however it can be attained), light bullets(for cal), short barrel. This is a formula that isn't viable in long range...

What powder is easier on barrels

    Yeah, so & so says all powders are the same... But per QuickLoad, just sayin: 'Heat of explosion/potential' Kj/Kg Hodgdon 4198 =>3860 Hodgdon 322 =>4000 Hodgdon 4895 =>4060 Hodgdon 335 =>3980 Hodgdon Varget =>4050 Hodgdon BL-C2 =>3990 Hodgdon 380 =>3970 Hodgdon 414 =>3880...

What powder is easier on barrels

It isn't that simple. The heat can be spread over more or less distance down the bore. The pressure curves can present different timing. A relatively small bit more of a way cooler powder(like H1000) can extend barrel life, provided you have sufficient barrel length to reach the same MV with...

What powder is easier on barrels

It's a wash Varget is hotter but you're using less, so here the barrel life will be the same.

    High-Precision Electric Powder Scale

There are plenty of scales out there that are more than accurate enough for powder measure. But pure accuracy, under ideal conditions, does not usually add up to a practical/reliable reloading scale. Maybe the Gempro does, I don't know. I used an Acculab for a while to validate my ChargeMaster...

    Inside case neck cleaning?

I wipe soot off the outside of necks, but what's inside(that's loose) is plenty taken care of with standard vibratory cleaning. It doesn't affect tension as that's a matter of brass springback, and it is a positive for consistent seating force. Our friend really.. If it happened that neck IDs...

Somebody use NEO rest in 1,000 yds match?

= ATTACK That you have yet to concede that older rests of yours, and of Farley's, could be configured in a manner which violates an IBS rule. = DENIAL I believe Charles understands that I meant no specific offense to you, but was merely pointing out configurations to watch out for. I also...

Somebody use NEO rest in 1,000 yds match?

Seb the context of my initial posting on the subject, supported the FACT that some Farleys, AND some of your rests, -could be, and have been combined with bags that could lead to a rule infraction. That your current rest and bag offered meet this rule, is great, and it appears the current Farley...

Somebody use NEO rest in 1,000 yds match?

Great info Charles. And you're right in that the accurateshooter.com thread was not about illegal rests, but rest/bag combinations that failed to meet a 1Kyd IBS rule. This, whether 'caught' by anyone or not.

That is a good move on their part. I never understood their choice of 14tw in 223Rem.

    .223 questions

You're not gonna need a high twist with BR bullets. The Cooper has potential in 14tw with ~50gr bullets. I use 50gr Janer FB in mine. But the trigger does suck, no denyin that one. Maybe you could find an old Jewel for Coopers. For pure performance with no wood whatsoever, can't go wrong with a...

How important is bullet seating depth into the case?

The wolfpup also has an extremely short neck. So it could be that it's bullet grip, even being neck/shoulder junction grip(higher), is about typical, or needed for the successful load. IMO, little applies for a 280i. I do know that with coaxial chamber necks(non tapered), tension from...

    Humidity.......The rest of the story

I doubt terms applied to racing apply directly to internal ballistics. We don't include air, or it's water content, in our combustion. We don't care about altitude, DA, RH, or pressure, separately, but about AIR DENSITY and TEMPERATURE of components. In a stretch, RH and temperature affect MACH...

    Bullet TIR

justjeff, have you polished an offending bullet & remeasured to see if it's really runout, or surface profile? Are you measuring this with a Juenke? Just curious

    Heretic or Idiot

Meplat trimming never was about normalizing weight, but BC. This reduces the calm external ballistic price from BC variance, while increasing the price of wind mis-read(due to decreasing BC). Your bullets, while excellent, suck for BC anyway. So the largest price with this remains wind...

Is the ogive tangent to the the bearing, or is there some angle to intersection? Can you pick a couple datums on the nose and give me distance from these to meplat?

    est bc for a bullet....

That's not enough info. Need meplat diameter, nose length, and ogive type and radius also.
