    I Am Back

Not sure if we ever met down there, but Bob White and I arranged the matches between Bell City and Cherry Ridge - always a great time! Glad to hear you are well enough to get back to the range! Mike Suhie

A brief journey in accuracy troubleshooting

I took the first steps in trying a shroud made of delrin impregnated with PTFE having ordered the material and made a mock up with some other acetyl type plastic I had around the shop. I am not sure I will see any difference in the overall performance, but I can't let this one go and have to...

A brief journey in accuracy troubleshooting

That is very interesting, Al. I would be curious to know the details of this, but perhaps on a different platform to protect the maker. I intentionally left the manufacturer from this thread as they are great to work with and had no culpability in this issue. The action overall is excellent...

A brief journey in accuracy troubleshooting

It was something that crossed my mind as I am sure others - a teflon shroud would be a really cool thing to try out or maybe a teflon lined shroud. I think I read somewhere that someone had tried one made out of delrin which would be interesting as well. Those little things all add up for sure!

    Flinching

I got tagged by the scope two or three times early in my benchrest career and found that a small shoulder recoil pad took away any flinch that I had. I would find myself all scrunched up behind the gun as I anticipated the recoil. Once I started using the recoil pad I could see the flags again...

A brief journey in accuracy troubleshooting

I hope so, and there are other stories my shooting partner shared with me that were just amazing at how small a thing e.g. a small nick on the sear of the trigger causing erratic groups where before the gun was winning grand aggs, bad reamers, firing pin fall that is .020 off, and the list goes...

A brief journey in accuracy troubleshooting

I wanted to share an experience I had that has opened my eyes to the importance of small details in rifle building being very important to 1/8th minute accuracy. I hope that it helps someone, maybe not directly with the same problem, but in the process of elimination when it comes to fliers or...

    Glue in action alignment tool

I don't always contribute to the gunsmith forum, but when I do I hope to maybe help someone through my mistakes. Had an action rotate in the bedding and had to hog it all out and start from scratch. Also, don't rush to get to your company coming over and try to clean up the bedding and eyeball...

Which dies to use for short range BR in 6PPC?

I have gone through 4 dies: JLC, Redding small base, Micron, and Harrel's for my JGS 1045 reamer and have found that they all work to some degree though the micron and harrell's 3.5 seem to have the best fit for this particular chamber. All are well made. The Harrell's 3.5 is what I would ask...

    Imr 4198

Haven't used the IMR 4198, but my dad has been having very good luck pushing Reloader 7 at 35gr or so in his 30br and having good luck with it. Gave him my old jug of it and he gave me some benchmark to mess around with in my son's ppc or my 30.

    BiB bullets question?

Looks like a 10 ogive and I believe those were on a 1" and confirmed on his website as such (just checked). I shot the 7's in both 118 on the 1" and 112 on the .925's and know plenty of people who shot the 10's...they are ass kickers! If you ever get a chance to talk to Randy grab a pen and...

Ricky Read has left the range (article by Gary Slawik)

I remember when he got his precision rifleman jacket and how he would just quietly kick all of our butts. Always approachable and willing to help out a new shooter his passing is definitely a loss to our community.

    Super Shoot Results 2022

Jim, Can't thank you and the boys and the whole crew for keeping things running smooth all week and very glad to hear that you are back on your feet. Ian did a great job as MC for the awards ceremony, but I know how much you probably wanted to be there. You have given a lot of shooters...

Brass click part deux - same reamer

Unfortunately, this is my friend's gun though I can confidently say he is meticulous with his prep and measurements. Not sure if he anneals/stress relieves after necking up or sizing initially, but for sure after fireforming. Cases with the click will size well, and the bolt handle goes...

That Super Shoot glow and Super Angels

the glow: This was my first, and maybe last or at least for a while, Super Shoot and I took 16th in the HV grand and got 49th overall. My goal for the match was to get top 50 for a single target much less a grand and the 2 gun! There were "only" 215 or so competitors compared to the days of...

Brass click part deux - same reamer

Thanks, Mike, it does help a lot. I have done maybe 15 or 20 barrels at this point and have not come across this in any of the 30br chambers. My first clue was the that brass from another gun that I did for my friend would not fit in this chamber after being full length sized. We moved...

Brass click part deux - same reamer

Since the cone depth wouldn't likely cause the clicking issue - the same reamer was used to cut this chamber as multiple other barrels, same sizing die and fireforming process was used though done in a different barrel with COW. Given the consistent procedures and equipment would simply cutting...

    Cone depth and brass click?

Thanks, Mike, I really appreciate it. It was definitely not an intentional spec, but my buddy is having a click start up and we are trying to trouble shoot it. Same reamer as I have done multiple other chambers though he said this one was a .001 shorter in headspace than others I have done for...

    Cone depth and brass click?

Would a cone depth for a 30br that was a thou or 2 too deep (.011 or .012)cause brass to click? Mike

    Milling fiberglass stocks

I appreciate the input, Als (the plural of Al?). Thanks! I will definitely try the painters tape and water mist - I also have some 4 flute end mills and will have to pick up some roughing style end mills. Mike
