    bushed primer pockets??

Al, Over on Accurate Reloading I remember reading a thread by Buckstix where he used 50bmg brass for an old bore rifle of some kind. In that thread he detailed making bushings to utilize LRP’s in lieu of the 50bmg primers. You might search that site for the info.

Maybe look at the different knurling tools available, might be a tool with the proper knurls you’re looking to produce.

    An interesting Savage 99 project

Not a 99, but I took an older steel framed Browning BLR in 308 and rebarreled to 250 Savage for my daughter’s first deer rifle. With her left eye dominance it was what I had laying around to use at the time. Turned out great and likely is a MOA or better rifle although I only sighted it in and...

    Bedding a Howa 1500

Nez, Take a look at Richard Franklin’s video on stress free pillar bedding. Well worth the $25-30 it costs, and will improve your bedding jobs immensely, even if you were more proficient at it. He goes through every step of the process in theory and in doing it. One of the best resources I’ve...

MONSTROUS success tonite w/new reamer ;)

I warned them of the recoil first thing…22-24” bbls, #5 contour (feels a lot lighter with a 35 cal hole through it!). Likely have brakes on them good vertical grip stocks with 1” decelerators. Now that I’ve looked at more data I think 3000fps is going to be more likely too. Similar to or less...

MONSTROUS success tonite w/new reamer ;)

Al, Very interesting and timely…in the process now of making a few 358 WSM rifles for ‘new’ caliber offerings in IA for their deer gun season. Few guys are going with straight 358 Winchester, but I thought the 200 Nosler AB at 28-2900 FPS would be a serious deer round that would offer a bit...

Interesting day at the gun store

I’ve gotten 3 guys at work into reloading in the last year. One early last year and one more recently. It took this last one a month or so to piece together necessary reloading equipment. Components are another matter and I’ve had two over to my shop to assist in reloading and sent them home...

    AR disconnector

If you’re referring to my input as the ‘second comment’ please enlighten me how what I stated is inaccurate. I’ve worked on that weapons system for over 25 years and believe I understand it pretty well.

    Feeding Experiences For Shortmag Family?

I built a 300 WSM this summer as a gift for a nephew and used a new 700 SA Mag bf action. I ordered the extended hfp Bainey’s Mag box, follower and bottom metal from PTG. There was some milking on the action to fit the extra long Mag box (3.1+”) and with the 1/4” extra drop of the bottom metal...

    AR disconnector

If the disconnector didn’t have that spring and was ‘fixed’ the action of the hammer coming back would jump or push the trigger back forward against the trigger finger. The spring and pivot action likely just makes the firing cycle smoother and more reliable. If you crushed the trigger while...

    Feeding Experiences For Shortmag Family?

Definitely a feed issue. As you slowly cycle a round, watch the pivot point where as the round starts to ‘tip up’ the loading ramp, the back of the case will start to drop as the round pivots off the front edge of the feed lip. If you relieve that lip to the rear that will allow the round to...

Would a Palma ‘95 reamer work? I do know it’s a tighter tolerance and throated for 155’s.

    Rifle Woes

Is this a repeater? I’d double check that the trigger housing isn’t hitting the trigger guard and if a repeater the mag box floats a tad. I’ve run into that issue occasionally.

has anyone seen a bedding video they liked ?

Richard Franklin’s bedding video is very good. I had bedded stocks for years when I watched his video and my results improved substantially after picking up a few tricks from his instruction.

Try calling McMillan Rifles, they made the Talon action after separating from Harris, or made the Talon before Harris got involved...don’t remember which.

    7br?

I also have a brand new 7br reamer and was planning on a light model Seven with a mountain rifle bbl contour. Make a lightweight deer rifle and shoot 120gr or so for a light recoil deer rifle.

    "Stalking Rifles"

My dream 'ideal' stalking rifle would be known as a Kipplauf in Germany. Chambered in 6.5X57R and a full length very trim stock topped with a nice scope in claw mounts and open sights as backup. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=kipplauf&FORM=HDRSC2 Maybe someday...

    My Thanksgiving Dressing

I make the dressing every year and generally it has an onion diced, celery, and two containers of mushrooms sliced thin. Cook/sweat all that down in a stick of butter and while doing that cook a cup or two of wild rice in a quart of chicken stock. I also add lots of chopped herb, primarily...

    Firing pin tip shape

I had severe blanking with a newer M70 and a 6x47 Lapua (srp). With mild starting loads it still blanked primers. The radius on that firing pin tip did in fact retreat too far into the bolt face when firing and sheared perfect circles out of 90% of the primers fired. I ended up bushing it and...
