Now that your position is becoming more clear I'm agreeing more and more with your original premise...... the fly in thee oinkment may well be that if you want a true-blue-new state-of-the-art RB/LP/RE or dropper you might have to line out components and wait. But you're getting valuable...

I believe that the only way to get truly good brass is to fireform in on a tigh crush-fit in your own chamber. If Jackie doesn't get back to you and if you're interested in another take.....I've a 2.5-3hr video series in which I "recreate" or attempt to follow Jackie's lead and succeed greatly...

OK.... so this is going to get me in trouble but in for a penny ;) "reputable smiths" is a broad term. LOL!!! I know what MY Master, Herr Franz Achleithner, husband of renowned engraver Emma Achleithner said.... !@#$%^&!! but it was all in German, and not directed at me so I just looked on, smiled and nodded politely as I carded my file like a gut' liddel bub'chen.....

    Longthorne Gunmakers

I did something similar to that in gunsmithing School. One of my instructors was Ferlach trained and he explained as how they had to make a ring on a stick and then file a round ball like a ball bearing such that if you froze the ring on the stick and drop the ball on it would not go through...

    Will my 50BMG blow up?

Thank you for your thoughts re bolt thrust..... let me be clear. I DO NOT intend to shoot these critters at BR pressures!!! I did run the barrel in question up to over (well over) 80,000psi but ONLY to "proof" it. I'm unwilling to waste strain gauges on this project, nor am I going to magnaflux...
