    How about Shooting Coaches?

When I retired from rimfire BR, I had thoughts of doing an article on major things that helped me to get from middle of the road to winning. There was one big thing, and I never see it mentioned. Now, of course I'm assuming you have equipment suited to the task, i.e., great rifle great ammo, but...

    IR 50/50 Sporters

Tony, I definitley agree about the dificultly, and wee bit of guessing involved, and reward of shooting a sporter well. Lots of folks never liked sporters because they never shot one that was hitting on all cylinders, ie. a good one. LOL I no longer compete, but still have some good sporters...

    IR 50/50 Sporters

I haven't kept up with what the actual sporter rules are any more. I recall they did away with safeties, not sure if it has to be a working repeater any longer or not. I do know, I dearly loved the sporters and shooting them as well. A challenge for sure. Beautiful stock on the rifle in the pic.

    Left the Range

Very sorry to hear of Jesse's passing. He was wonderful friend, and always enjoyed talking with him, and shooting with him. I'll always remember him because he was so encouraging when I began shooting rimfire BR. I'd look at my target in disgust, and he'd say, awe, it ain't that bad. It'll get...

    Crawfish Shoot

Bill, take care of yourself. Sorry to hear your health is slowing ya down, but I definitely understand, happened to me as well. I continued shooting about 3 years longer than I should have. Performance had fallen way off because I got so exhausted during a match. It took me 3-4 days to recover...

Shout out to any of the men that I used to shoot IR50/50 and RBA with.

Ken, glad to see you're still alive and well. Always enjoyed shooting with you and your wife at the big matches. Figured you'd have moved South by now to get out of shoveling snow. LOL I remember some of the snow stories, and you shoveling it away from the window so you wife could see outside...

Bob, glad to see you're alive and well. It'll be Springtime soon, noticed some trees already starting to bloom this afternoon! Then I'll have a job, mowing grass. hahhaha

George, that's great shooting! Glad it works for you. Believe me, I never sent out a rifle that I didn't think I could win a match with, once finding the right ammo match. Of course some folks can shoot, and some just talk. But' always nice when someone is happy with the rifle.

Yeah Glynn, I remember that. That was one of those "Unforgettable experiences", but not the good kind. I don't think I've been back to SC since. LOL

Good to see some guys are still alive and well. I doubt I'll be attending any rimfire matches any more. I still have all the equipment, but ranges here in the area no longer shoot IR50/50 or RBA, or anything else for that matter. Besides, I was just barely able to get around the last few matches...

I seldom look at forums any more, but was thinking this morning of all the good folks that I used to shoot with weekly, and those I ran into at the big shoots. I know some have already passed on, but I hope the ones still here are doing well. Have a great year shooting guys!

    IR 50/50 Sporters

Tony, this was a great write up about the history of IR50/50 sporters. Thank you for doing it. I loved shooting sporters most of all! Extremely tough, but very rewarding if all went well. Wilbur, miss seeing you and all the other shooters, hope you're doing well.

    Merry christmas!!!!!!!!!!

Wilbur, you post reminds me of one of the road trips to Jacksonville, Crawfish shoot. Coming back up the road, after we'd discussed every topic under the sun to make riding less boring, I told you that I was completely out of stuff to discuss, and that I'd have to start making things up going...

Glad to hear that George. You seem to shoot it very well too.:) Have a Merry Christmas and keep up the shooting. It's fun, sometimes. And even a bad day shooting beats working. HAHAHA

    Merry christmas!!!!!!!!!!

Will never forget that one Glen. I shot poorly anyway, but it didn't help losing a nights sleep. Was tempted to go out to the car and get my .45 and fire off a few rounds into the air, but that would have never worked, I'd ended up in jail in SC. LOL It sounded like they we filming the Jerry...

    Merry christmas!!!!!!!!!!

Wilbur knows that I don't do politically correct, and frankly it never crossed my mind. That's how unaware I am. LOL I'm in my own little world, sometimes.

    Merry christmas!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Landy. I think I'd learn a lot from talking with you about your ammo testing, and the black art of rimfires altogether. What I miss most since I've stepped back from the game is talking with fellow shooters. I've began to realize that if the conversation isn't about firearms and shooting...
