How did I get there (my story)

This has been a very interesting read, and enjoyable. Thank you for taking your time to post it. Best of luck in future events.

    Fail to Fire (FTF)

Here lately, I've worked on several common rimfires (not target rifles) with FTF problems, and with different brands of ammo. Maybe ammo is worse than it once was, I don't know.

    Chambers for RFBR rifles

Nice to see George! A fella can only do so much, the rest is up to the shooter to test ammo and practice, and hopefully don't choke LOL I never sent a rifle out that I didn't think I could win a match with myself. Some folks got better results than others, because as you mentioned, there are a...

    Chambers for RFBR rifles

Very interesting reading, gentlemen. rimfire rifles, lead bullets, and barrels, and their nature makes it extremely difficult to compare test data from one to another. But, I always noticed that Mr. Calfee seemed to do it very well back when I was shooting. His method seemed to get results...

    2022 IR 50/50 Nationals

Congrats on some fine shooting Tony! Great post, well written, and informative. I kept up with the scores as it went along, some great scores by a lot of folks. And yeah, this stuff ain't easy. LOL

    IR 50/50 target

That rule must have changed. Back in the day, even before they put the sighters down the sides, I saw a shot plugged that touched the outer box and scored a -10! Damn good shooting George, lotta x's. LOL

    Ir 50/50 (275)

JB, Sounds like the Voodoo action is doing the job for you. Great! In the rimfire world there are many ideas on what works, and what might work, and what won't work, and the ideas are varied and sometimes unfounded as well. If a maker tries to address them all he'll go crazy! LOL Truth is most...

Tell us about your Bench Rest journey.

Actually, I got into rimfire BR incrementally, or kind of slow. I was fortunate to be in an area close to a couple of ranges where some of the best of their time were at their peak, Steve Arnold, Lamon Loggins(one of the best hard wind shooters alive, and top notch rimfire gunsmith as well)...

Tell us about your Bench Rest journey.

Now this is an interesting thread. I'll check back later, and try and remember back a ways. It was definitely a great journey, but very enjoyable. It'd take a while to document it all, I recall finishing fitting a barrel at 3 am, then shooting back to back 250's with it the next day to win a...

    Ir 50/50 (275)

I agree, it is and was expensive, to play the game. I've seen from experience that any new equipment that's introduced to the game gets ridiculed so much,(and by those who have no clue) that it's not worth the effort. I wished Voodoo well and hoped they've be successful, not sure how that worked...

    Ir 50/50 (275)

I should stay outta this, but I can't. LOL I ran IR50/50 matches for 10-12 years with Wilbur as owner, and later with Bill Hindgardener as owner. Both those guys were great for the game, honest to a fault. The year 2010 I averaged 22 shooters per match, and the turnout dwindled down from there...

    Rimfire chambers

Tony, thanks for that link. I'd never seen it. Interesting in that I did my chambers much the same way, using a hobb that Dave Kiff made for me, and I used Viper Venom cutting oil as a lube. Seemed to work ok. Good luck shooting this season!

    Rimfire chambers

Tony, rimfire BR was definitely a challenge, and I kinda miss it. I enjoy watching what's going on with equipment and the awesome scores you guys are shooting now. Bill Calfee definitely had a handle on building some fine rimfire rifles, and I really respected his work. As for the shooting part...

    Rimfire chambers

Tony, thanks for sharing. Over the years I've seen a lot of discussion on chambering, but seems like a lot gets left out, either by design, or by actually not knowing properly how to explain it. Kinda like telling a beginner how to shoot the wind on a blustery day, with the sun going behind the...

    Rimfire chambers

Tony, I think it's close to impossible to find the magic number. Too many variables to deal with, ammo length, difference in bore sizes. But, I do think that in a great barrel, it's easier to get it right. LOL But, a very interesting thread.

    Ammo

I no longer compete in rimfire shooting, but I do watch the results from matches, and I'm thinking ammo has gotten way better, or best lots have gotten better. It's good to see! I'm sure the search for great ammo is as tough as ever. I always thought when I sat down at the bench, that my rifle...

    New rifle builds!

Interesting thread Tony. I'd almost forgotten how irritating trying to get the "Just right" firing pin shape and spring rate can be. But, it makes a difference, if it's right. Good luck the coming season.

    How about Shooting Coaches?

Excellent post Tony. When I first started in rimfire BR Steve Arnold shot with us and I tried to watch him shoot thru my spotting scope whenever we were on different relays. I was always amazed at how often his BAD shots were on sighters, and his X's were for score. It was like he had a sense of...

    How about Shooting Coaches?

Someone touched on sharing of info from the experienced to the inexperienced. When I began shooting IR50/50 I was in a hornets nest shooting with some of the best in the game at that time. Now, that was a "good thing", but beating them wasn't going to happen. LOL I asked lots of questions...
