    Darn Allenhead Bolts

Nice to see you did not dammage the edge of the tool thread. Got some old tools showing a wider lock ring fitted with radial lock bolt. Love them, even if too wide to go on progressive press tool holder. On my own, I got only 2 sizers I often change the setting, and I always use shims below...

    Powder for subsonic 223/5.56

What you wanna do with a subso 223 ? hunt mosquitoes ? I remember of the Russian and their 80 grains oversized 5.45 bullet. They quickly switched to 9x39, for terminal energy and momentum. Meanwhile, most everybody do it with MP5 9x19. A 300BO upper might be an option for U. As far as "start...

    Checking bullets

We are having some kind of double thread here... Anyway, I am surprised by part of your experience. When I Base to Ogive measure industrial HP match bullets, I NEVER found any variation, wether it be Sierra, Hornady or Nosler or Lapua. I can understand this. Bullets are pointed with a press...

    Checking bullets

Did that. For tangent ogive, just terrible, one is jammed, the other is just in, and the last has jump. Not an ideal mix. Almost as indecent with secant. What has helped me much was to sort such kind of bullets by base to ogive length using a caliper and a Davidson nose. Sorted them by 0.002"...

    dazed and confused

Having a brl chambered to SAAMI min (if any SAAMI for that caliber) or below SAAMI min to get the "ultra match" sooooooo fashion label, then running standard dimensions (and standard tolerances) sizing dies is a true call for problems. If your caliber is some kind of extremely wild wildcat...

    turning mandrels from rebar

Thank you. The "ceramic" you are talking about is better than carbon like diamond or cubical boron nitride coating ? Never heard neither read about monobloc ceramic cutting bits or even ceramic coating of tungsten carbide holser/support ...

    turning mandrels from rebar

I am not surprised by "your" (in USA) issues machining rebar. Here in France, even ""regular"" or "new" construction steel aka A60, XC45 recently gave me qui a sweat. Very unpure, sandy portion, whatever your machining direction, vibration changes, chip changes, cutting depth changes several...

    Federal Primers are changing formula?

I remember what a hard time we had end of the 80's with the first lead free primers. Kinetic energy to make the primer go BANG was almost ... random. At that time, we were manufacturing totally lead free ammo in 9x19, .38 Spec and .357 Mag to the request of the Police for use in indoor...

Bullet diameter - How big is too big? 30 BR

I remember an article in PS about a 300 Whisper shot in a 223 rifle. It all ends with a long sausage shaped bullet sticked along the barrel and fortunately nobody was hurt should I remember well. So... the 30 bullet shank reached the 223 rifling ... even if conditions were not that ideal.

    Sheared pressure ring?

About the motorised case trimmer : I am used to convert 5.56x45 or 223 to 5.45 x 39. Having an AK outshooting DanielDefenses and JPs AR15 in IPSC-R is quite a bit of fun. This implies at one stage a heavy trimming, done with a piloted mill bit fitted on a drill press. In this operation, lot...

    Sheared pressure ring?

@ Mr. HUH : Are you using a motorised case trimmer ? Have you noticed some heavily copper fouled areas here and there down your almost new barrel when using your bore scope ? ps : if chamber was grooved in the throat/lead area, my guess is that a bullet under full acceleration will expand in...

    Sheared pressure ring?

Have you look to the chamber neck of this "new" barrel with a bore scope or even a magnifier lens? I wonder about : a : too long chamber neck b : a circular groove at the very front of the chamber (very front of the neck) in the case some chips got caught in between reamer and...

    Ballistic Calculators

I am also a very satisfied user of JBM. With it, I pushed a 308 Win to 1300 meters, a 9x19 to 200 meters , a 5.45x39 to 500 meters and a subsonic 308 Win to 200 meters, all with a happy success. As mentioned above, external ballistic calculation is a funny rabit hole to jump into. It learned...
