    Who made this barrel?

Weatherby did contract J.P. Sauer in West Germany to build Mark V rifles when the demand was more than they could handle during that time frame. Maybe it is one of their blanks from when they went to Howa in Japan because of costs, and they sold off the remaining West German supply. I'm...

    Sheared pressure ring?

I use a sliding chamber type seater. No shaving is occurring that I can tell. Actually, the seating die was cut with the same chambering reamer.

    Sheared pressure ring?

Color for one. Do your bullets look the same color as your cartridge cases to you?

    Sheared pressure ring?

I never realized that gunpowder and pressure turned brass into copper, and that trimming .002 off a case mouth can cause such a large burr. I learn something new every day.

    Sheared pressure ring?

I kind of did that, except I just bent it a little to see if any pieces would flake off. They didn't. If you look at the picture, you can see a round narrow section from about 10:30 to 11:00. It actually is almost perfectly round and actually looks like a piece of solid electrical wire. I've...

    Sheared pressure ring?

I can't honestly answer that. I hadn't had any problems until I was testing a new powder in the rifle. I loaded 15 rounds with increasing powder charges with a known good seating depth from previous load development. Just so happens that it spit the last round at which point I was going to clean...

    Sheared pressure ring?

Is it possible when seating the core to apply enough force to stretch or weaken the jacket at the pressure ring/heal of the jacket? Maybe somebody threw a set-up bullet in the pot when they were made? Or maybe the punch when forming the jacket might have had too sharp of a corner?

    Sheared pressure ring?

One thing I might add is that the reamer has zero free bore with a 1.5° lead. I don't think that is the cause because I chambered 2 other barrels with that reamer and haven't had an issue from either one of them. The only thing that I can come up with is a bad jacket for whatever reason. So far...

    Sheared pressure ring?

Al, then wouldn't I see a case mouth that was screwed up or shorter then the rest that were all trimmed to the same length? I looked at those last 15 cases and nothing seems out of place.

    Sheared pressure ring?

Jeeeez Dude.....I cut the chamber and yes it is on axis within .0003 according to my indicator and no it doesn't have any torn metal, grooves or other wise in the chamber body, neck area or throat as verified by my bore scope. The head space is perfect and exactly on minimum. The neck length in...

 Roger that! And it figures it would have to happen to me. :D

    Sheared pressure ring?

Well I normally hit the mouth of the case on a piece of scotch brite after trim and chamfer to remove any burr that the chamfer tool may have left and the ring is clearly copper and not brass. So dang if I know.

    Sheared pressure ring?

a: Huh? The bullet doesn't touch the chamber. How would that cause a problem? b: Huh? If the chamber had a groove, which it doesn't, the brass would flow into that groove making the inside of the neck bigger in that area. How would that shave a bullet? Oxidation....why would anyone want to do...

    Sheared pressure ring?

It appears to be one piece. But with pressure, I guess it could be welded together. Don't know. It came out just like you see it on the 1st patch with Butch's Bore Shine. Hey what a great advertisement that would be for removing copper. ;)

    Sheared pressure ring?

Al, If you're asking about a donut, I don't see anything. The brass is starline which has a thinner neck then some other stuff. I measured the fired case and a loaded round and there is .006 difference which is a pretty big amount. The last round stayed centered but was about 2" high. The...

    Sheared pressure ring?

Brass was annealed, trimmed and chamfered with a VLD style tool one firing before. The bullets seated fine with no unusual resistance in the brass, no shaving of the jacket. The copper ring came out of the barrel during cleaning, after 15 rounds were fired from a new barrel with 100 rounds...

    Sheared pressure ring?

I was working up a load with a new powder (Sta-Ball) for a 7-08 with some old lot 120 Sierras, made in California, and after 15 shots I cleaned to switch powders, and on the first patch, this came out. Shot these bullets with other powders and no problems. I called and emailed Sierra and they...

    6x47 Lapua hangfires

I normally shoot H4350 with 105 VLD's and Federal 205M's. Since I had a jug of StaBall and Hodgdon had data, I decided to give it a whirl. I loaded 38.0 up to 40.0 in .5 grain increments. 38, 38.5 and 39 grains had the classic click/boom hang fires, with it progressively decreasing with the...
